Duration of Programs

The duration for most foundation programs take one year and some with accelerated programs for  students  with Year 12 results, i.e. A Level, but do not meet the entry requirements for direct entry into the undergraduate program. The duration for most bachelor degree is 3 years with honours. Professional programs like Law and Engineering are 4 years with honours. MBBS programs duration is about 6 years.

Accommodation and Living expenses

Living expenses including accommodation a year is approximately £12,200 a year. London commands higher rent and living expenses and one would expect to budget aside approximately £15,180. Note that this cost is indicative and the cost varies according to many factors like location, size of accommodation, etc. There are options to stay in on-campus dorms, privately owned student accommodation and off-campus housing. 

Healthcare and Medical Insurance

International students applying for a Tier 4 student visa and coming to the UK for 6 months or longer will be required to pay an immigration health surcharge as part of their visa application fee. Students will be required to pay £150 per year of leave granted on their visa.

Working Part-Time

International students who study a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate degree course at a recognised university are allowed to work part-time during term term for up to 20 hours a week and full-time during the holidays. 

If your course is at a lower level, you study at a further education college or your institution is not listed on the lists above, you will not be allowed to work during your studies.

The minimum wage range from £3.50 (apprentice) to £7.50 (if you are age 25 and above)

Money Matters

Most, if not all UK universities require a certain percentage of the first year's tuition fee to be collected as deposit to confirm a place in the institution. Bank drafts and electronic funds transfer like telegraphic transfers are the most common method. Cheque and credit card is also accepted. Before or after arriving in the UK, students advised to open a bank account under a student account so that their parents can transfer money to their bank account. NatWest, Barclays and HSBC are popular choices among international students.

Telecommunication

If you are a heavy internet data user outdoors, make many calls through your mobile or both, you may consider signing a postpaid account contract with a telco provider. If not, you may wish to consider a prepaid card. Universities in the UK have wifi access on campus. You may have to purchase internet date in on-campus accommodation. If you are living off-campus, you may wish to get a internet plan with an Internet Service Provider (ISP). Telcos like Three, O2, and EE have student plans.and are popular choices among international students
