Tian Yin is from Singapore and is majoring in molecular toxicology. She will be attending UC Berkeley in the fall. She also got admitted to Penn State, Ohio State, and UC Davis.

“When I came to Green River, I didn’t know what to expect. We don’t have community colleges or Associate degrees in Singapore. At Green River, people come from all walks of life. There are parents returning to classes with their children who are completing high school, grandparents wanting to continue their education, people from the workforce who need re-training, others who take classes for the fun of learning. It’s fantastic; it’s real. That’s how society is – made of people with many different aspirations. I found a warm and accepting community willing to extend me many opportunities, learn about my culture, and hear my ideas. On my first day at school, Ross Jennings (VP of Int’l Prog) told us to say yes to new experiences. His advice got me into so much trouble – I started getting involved in Student Senate, clubs and CLEO. Keeping his message in mind helped me grow, and I learned to embrace change and seize opportunities. My supportive instructors, advisors, supervisors and friends have also been amazing people willing to share their wealth of experience and advice. Two years ago, I was on a gap year after high school, working to save money while trying to figure out my next step. Being accepted into a top university was something I have always desired, and Green River College offers the best program for me to achieve my goals. First and foremost, thanks to the International Program advisors who guided me since my first quarter here because without them I would not be who I am today. They assisted me in the process of planning and working towards my prospective university, which included setting up an Ed Plan. I would also say that the resources available here such as the Library, Writing Center, Math Learning Center and also the Technology Center Open Lab gave good impact in my studies. These places are convenient for studying and to being tutored. As a Mechanical Engineering student, my instructors also supported my ambition and they were always available for me whenever I needed them. The clubs and activities here as well as events like the Volunteer Club, Lunch Bytes and University Transfer Fair, kept me active and engaged. Green River College is truly the best!
