Applying Student Visa to study in the UK

Most students studying in the UK for more than 3 months will need to obtain a UK Tier 4 student visa.

The process for applying the student may vary depending on your nationality, personal background and age. However the general steps are as summarised as follows:

Tier 4 (General) Student Visa

You can apply for a Tier 4 (General) student visa to study in the UK if you’re 16 or over and you:

  • have been offered a place on a course
  • can speak, read, write and understand English
  • have enough money to support yourself and pay for your course - the amount will vary depending on your circumstances
  • are from a country that’s not in the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland
  • Meet the other eligibility requirements

When to apply:

The earliest you can apply for a visa is 3 months before you start your course.

As soon as you receive the CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) from your university, you should start to apply for your visa.

An early application will ensure that you receive your visa in a timely manner and well ahead of your scheduled departure. You will also have the time to resolve any issues that may crop up during the course of your application.

Requirements based on Passport

If you are Singaporean:

Singapore is classified as a low-risk country, and the visa application process for Singaporeans is generally very easy. Despite a high approval rate, Singaporean applicants are still at risk of being refused visa if the required documents are not prepared properly. All our students receive detailed instruction on how to apply for their student visa online, and most of the time our consultants will help you with those tedious forms.

You can apply for your student visa on your own, but you need to consider the risk of losing a few hundred in application fees if your application is refused. By using our Free service, you are protected.

If you are a foreigner:

Depending on your nationality, your student visa application could be rather difficult. Financial documentation and other supporting documents may be required. Sometimes you will be asked to go through checks or to fulfill certain requirements before you are granted a student visa.

Your student visa might be refused if you do not provide sufficient documentation. It is not just about losing hundreds of dollars on application fees, your future visa applications may also be placed at risk.
