It has a clear focus on the creation of 3D computer animation for games, film and TV, and begins with fundamental skills common to all animation roles, in drawing and pre-visualisation, cinematography, asset design and modeling, 2D and 3D keyframe animation and simulation.
The inclusion of motion capture and performance modules from the computer games courses make this a distinctive programme and gives you an opportunity to experience working in a large development team, producing animation within the context of computer games. It equips you with valuable skills in this growing area of animation, which is used in both games and film animation production.
You also gain experience of the wider animation pre-production and production pipeline in team modules shared with the games pathways where you can work as animators or motion capture artists.

If you want to work in the animated film and TV industries then this course is for you. The course provides a clear focus on the creation of 3D and 2D visual effects and simulation for 3D animation, film, and television.
You learn skills in 3D modeling, scripting, rigging, animation and especially in compositing visual effects into animated products. You also gain experience of the wider pre-production and production pipelines in team modules shared with other animation and technical effects disciplines, where you can work as a generalist on design, pre-production, rigging, lighting, and shaders, or in more specialist effects animation roles in simulation and post-production or rendering pipelines.

If you have a passion for designing and animating computer characters seen in film, advertising or games then this is the course for you. Character animation involves creating the illusion of thought and emotion through a character’s physical actions. Without this, the humour, eccentricity, energy, sadness or fear in a character wouldn’t be communicated.
We place great importance on your drawing skills, observation and the principles of animation. You are also taught acting theory and body language as applied to animated characters. We develop your creative talent so you can also design, model and rig your own characters prior to making them move. You learn using traditional character animation techniques as well as the latest state-of-the-art production tools. Disciplines covered in the course include:
drawing and concept art
2D and 3D character animation
character design and modeling
acting for animation
scriptwriting and storytelling
professional portfolio development.
*This course has a foundation year for applicants who don’t meet the requirements for Year 1 entry.
